Why is this important?
Historically, healthcare energy efficiency efforts have been focused on lighting and building systems, ignoring medical equipment primarily because it seems intractable. Manufacturers have been minimally expected to design more energy efficient devices. The EPA considered, but abandoned an effort to extend its popular ENERGY STAR rating to medical equipment.
You, our clients, are increasingly pressured to reduce your carbon footprint and increase their sustainability efforts and have asked us for direction. You’ve asked for this direction; we’ve heeded the call. We are working with our partners and clients to collect and analyze actual energy usage to provide insights to inform design and influence policy.
We are collecting real information about actual consumption of installed equipment to help our clients make good decisions about their infrastructure, the equipment they buy, and the patients and communities they serve.
As healthcare has grown more dependent on technology, the consumption of equipment loads in healthcare facilities has grown. Our facility infrastructure design inevitably and increasingly must depend not on assumptions but on actual consumption data.
Using both model-specific and data aggregated by equipment category will allow us to present insights, comparing actual usage patterns and trends across a variety of devices and the facilities in which they are used.
